Social Networks can be a major source of targeted web traffic!

Besides building your lists (friends), most social networks can gain you traffic in several ways.

The first mistake we all do at social networks is invite and accept everyone we can to build a large friends list! Building a huge list is great but….. as with every list, if it is not targeted to a narrow niche or product/service, it will not be a very profitable list.  Now having a list is much better than no list at all, and if  you are active in the community, you can network with friends friends to build more targeted lists. So all is not lost. This just takes more time. A targeted list may not grow as fast, but will be more profitable and take less of your time in the future!

An example would be a small list built by offering a free report on computer games. (narrowed to even one game or manufacture is even better) Once or twice a month you can send the hottest computer game deal (and really try to find a great deal)  that you are an affiliate of to this list…….  You make a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the list size. Easily!

Sending the same deal to your large community friends list will probably only make you a few bucks if you are lucky….

You can sort your friends lists into different groups at most communities and sort them even further by having them sign up to even more targeted list through the offers you send them.  This takes list building and management software on an autoresponder. Another easy way to automate and target your marketing that will work for you once you spend a little time setting it up. A story for another day…..

OK! So the number 1 way to use social communities is list building.

To build your lists or customer base, you need traffic! There are many ways to build traffic.

Most people opt for what I call backwards marketing. They work to get clicks on their ads. Most of these sites have the same type of people looking at your ads… people looking to sell…. not buy. Then when you stop clicking or reading their ads…. you stop getting traffic to your ads! A vicious circle that nets you little.

Then there are the people that buy advertising. Look at the big picture here folks! There are millions of people (trained advertising copy writers and people with to much money)  already grabbing the top traffic! If you think you are better than they are……. Have a go at it! Just make sure you set your spending limit low!

Then there is organic search engine traffic. Look at the big picture again folks! There are millions of SEO guru’s out there grabbing the top keywords! Do you think your affiliate page or your Blogger or Wordpress free blog will ever get seen? Only by the people you send there! Even a site or blog on your own domain will never be seen by serch engine traffic without massive work from you! So this brings us back to your social communities. The big ones will still be harder to get seen on (untill you realy get good at keywords and posting) because of the shear numbers of compitition (still better than alone on the internet). But their rank will boost the keywords you use in every post, and with research can get you a top search listing within minutes!  Any community blog or forum you prticipate in gives you one more chance of getting that traffic. The more posts, the better the odds!

Then the kicker!!

These posts will keep bringing you traffic as long as they are live on the internet! They also may not rank high for a keyword now, but as things change, you may end up #1 for that keyword! The other great thing about most social communities is every article you post on their blogs or forums is automatically linked back to your profile! People liking what they read will check out your profile and follow links from there! (Why Profile set up is so important!)

Picking the best communities for you (only ones you are interested in), profile page set up, sorting your friends into groups, staying active – posting and commenting wil get you the best results. Check out new communities before you join, only join  the ones you see you will want to be posting in (you won’t have to stop and think up something to post)…… Not trying to  catch every person on the internet will make your life a lot easie.
