After conversing with FireStats support and programmers I have tried to trim the script a little so all members can easily see their web traffic stats. We are after all in the business of creating website traffic for our members and want you to see the results of your work as soon as possible!
I urge all members that use Firestats to be sure they do not change the hits processing mode!
This will slow down the server and can shut down everyones blog! I have set the stats to refresh every 5 minutes which seems to be working well so far. The reason we are having so much trouble with FireStats is the great job it does collecting the tracking info. It does a lot of work for you behind the scenes and can tax the server if lots of people want info at the same time. We are on a fast server but with the blogs script running for multiple users and the Firestats trying to gather and show the web traffic stats for each user, its like having every program on your computer running at the same time. What happens? Your computer crashes or freezes. When this happens to our server, our blogs will not show on the web!
Settings should not have to be changed. If you need to change something click on settings and uncheck the automatic version check box, I will be doing any updates from here, no need of every blog checking to see if it is currant. Also just above the version check you can set your Firestats to compact old data automatically and select one week. I hope to have those options set on setup and the settings in your FS admin removed along with some of the other admin Tabs you may have now.
Using FireStats without crashing.
- When you log into your blogs admin click the FireStats link beside your Dashboard link (all your stats will be listed on this page, it should be the only page you need ) To leave the FireStats page click any link in your blogs admin navigation at the top of the page.
- Do Not activate any other services. FireStats as it is set delivers more than enough information!
- In WordPress settings you can ad a widget to your sidebar or show your stats in your footer. Do 1 only! The more you ad here is loading the server even more! Keep it simple! Unless you are selling ads or traffic your stats do not need to be shown
- Never touch anything under tabs I have not explained or you are not sure of! You can delete or alter another members blog or crash all blogs on Trafficblognet.com! I am working with FS support to remove any tabs and buttons that are not necessary for the members.
This is a great service and lets work together to keep it active so all members can watch their traffic grow!
